2011.11.22 – Psiphon’s role in supporting internet access in Syria was reported on CNN today.
Rafal Rohozinski, CEO of SecDev and Psiphon stated, “What we’re doing is not much different to what the airwaves provided during the Cold War to provide those citizens living behind the Iron Curtain with an ability to get information which otherwise they were not getting from their state … Whereas shortwave radio during the Cold War was very unidirectional … with the Internet these technologies are by definition bidirectional, meaning that it gives an opportunity for citizens within these states to also communicate amongst themselves and with the outside world.”

2011.11.19 – Psiphon inc is developing a new version of the home server, which will be released under an GNU open source license in 2012. The new version is a successor to the discontinued version 1.6 . The new code will be designed for a deployment on a dedicated hardware device and developers will be able to build and extend the platform to fit specific requirements.
Psiphon inc will launch Psiphon 4.X ( aka Swarm) as a managed consumer-level service in 2012 making it easy for friends and families to create private content delivery networks.
2010.09.18 – Psiphon inc has retired Psiphon version 1.6. This version of the software was originally released by the Citizen Lab in 2006 and allowed home users to set up their own Psiphon servers and provide content delivery services to friends and families in countries that practice Internet censorship.
Version 1.6 will remain available as open source code via LaunchPad for those developers that wish to continue to extend the platform.
